Motor City Story Overview
John Miller (Alan Ritchson) is just another Joe who has his whole life ruined when he is unjustly accused of committing a crime. The man becomes a victim of the betrayal of a strong mobster who tries to get rid of him, but ends up robbing him of his family, job, and even the girl he loves. Decades later, John returns to Detroit with one intention in mind - revenge. Throughout the movie, he says very few things as he goes about finding the people behind his ruin. The rest of the plot deals with the themes of betrayal, redemption and justice.

Motor City Review: Style Takes Center Stage
Right from the start, Motor City presents itself with a highly distinctive form of narration. Director Potsy Ponciroli opts for visual narration where the action scenes and acting are more than enough to tell the story without long dialogs. The action scenes are harsh, vivid, and choreographed with great talent, and every fight is meaningful. The combination of the film being set in the 70s and the film's style and cinematography, as well as the soundtrack with many classic rock songs, makes the movie have an identity of its own.
However, the very thing that makes it distinct is also what makes it its weakest point. Due to the lack of dialogs and character development, the characters are typical revenge thriller characters, and nothing more than that. Nevertheless, the movie is still interesting due to its strong direction and fast rhythm. Those who like classic revenge thrillers will find it appealing.
Alan Ritchson Commands Every Scene
Alan Ritchson demonstrates that he has everything one would want in an action movie star. His physical stature, subtle acting, and believable action performance ensure that John Miller is an intimidating but sympathetic character. On the other hand, Ben Foster offers a very intimidating acting performance as the main villain of the movie. The emotional side of the story is provided by Shailene Woodley despite her minimal screen time.
It appears that MOTOR CITY is a love it or hate it movie. Not sure if it’s mainly the lack of dialogue that turned some people off. Visually speaking, Motor City is one of the most successful aspects of the movie. Thanks to the desaturated color palette, gritty production design and cinematography, the movie manages to authentically capture the spirit of 1970s Detroit. The music acts as one of the driving forces behind replacing the dialogue, while the sound design adds to the effectiveness of each hit, gun shot and chase scene. Even though at times the editing lags too long, the movie still looks cinematic and engaging.

Motor City is an ambitiously filmed revenge movie that emphasizes style over substance.
