Actress and singer Shruti Haasan has once again spoken candidly about her personal life, sharing her views on marriage, relationships and motherhood. At 40, the actress addressed questions about being single and explained that she is not against marriage, but does not believe that a relationship necessarily needs a legal or social label to remain meaningful.
Shruti discussed her thoughts during a conversation on Soha Ali Khan's podcast, where she spoke about her career, relationships, women's health and her hopes for the future.
What Does Shruti Haasan Think About Marriage?
Shruti Haasan explained that she values companionship, emotional connection and mutual understanding in a relationship. However, she does not feel that marriage is the only way to make a relationship meaningful or long-lasting.
The actress said she does not like forcing herself into a predefined idea of how life should look. While some of her views may appear traditional, she believes they have developed through her own experiences and choices rather than social expectations.
Shruti also questioned the excessive spending often associated with weddings. She suggested that instead of spending a huge amount on a ceremony, the money could potentially be used to help people in need or support a meaningful cause.
Shruti Believes Couples Should Choose Each Other Every Day
For Shruti, a strong relationship is built on the willingness of two people to continue choosing each other every day. She places greater importance on genuine companionship and emotional commitment than on a legal document.
The actress also revealed that she had once come quite close to getting married. However, that experience did not fundamentally change the way she views marriage.
Shruti made it clear that she has nothing against people who choose to get married. Her concerns are primarily about the pressure, unnecessary expenditure and social expectations that can sometimes surround weddings.

Shruti Haasan Talks About Her Desire to Become a Mother
During the conversation, Shruti also opened up about motherhood and said she would like to experience being a mother in the future. She is open to adoption and expressed excitement about the possibility of raising a child.
At the same time, she has not completely ruled out having a biological child. For Shruti, the most important aspect is experiencing motherhood and developing a meaningful bond with her child rather than following one particular route.
Shruti Haasan and Shantanu Hazarika Went Their Separate Ways
Shruti Haasan was previously in a relationship with artist Shantanu Hazarika. The two reportedly dated for around four years before their relationship came to an end in 2024.
Following their separation, Shruti has focused on her professional commitments and personal growth. Her recent comments about marriage also reflect her independent approach to relationships and life choices.
Her Parents' Marriage Also Shaped Her Perspective
Shruti Haasan is the daughter of veteran actors Kamal Haasan and Sarika. The couple married in 1988 and later separated before officially ending their marriage in 2004. They have two daughters, Shruti Haasan and Akshara Haasan.
Growing up with her parents' relationship and experiencing her own personal journey may have contributed to Shruti developing an individual perspective on love, commitment and marriage. However, she has never suggested that she completely rejects the idea of marriage.
