Dhanush and Mammootty starrer Om: Chapter 1 – Udhiram: The Blood Wood has officially moved away from its October release date, avoiding a clash with Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2. Dhanush confirmed the postponement on September 23, while reports suggest the action drama could now target a December 2026 release.
The film was earlier scheduled to arrive in theatres on October 16, just a day after Jailer 2, which is set for October 15. Dhanush explained that the decision was made out of respect for Rajinikanth and to avoid competing directly with his film.
Om Chapter 1 Postponed To Avoid Jailer 2 Clash
In his statement, Dhanush acknowledged the difficulty involved in shifting a film’s release but said the team decided to postpone Om because Rajinikanth’s Jailer 2 was arriving on October 15. He described Rajinikanth as a superstar admired over the years and said the team wanted to avoid the direct clash.
The change comes after weeks of speculation surrounding the two big Tamil releases. Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, stars Rajinikanth as Tiger Muthuvel Pandian and is scheduled for October 15, 2026.
Dhanush Says Om Will Not Release During Diwali
Dhanush also confirmed that the team will not shift Om into the Diwali window. According to his statement, Suriya’s upcoming film Scene has already locked that period, and the Om team wants to respect the previously announced release plans.
This means the movie is now looking beyond both its original October slot and the Diwali period. Earlier reports had suggested November 27 or December 3 as possible alternatives, although neither date has been officially announced by the makers.
The possibility of a December release emerged after reports that Prabhas’s Fauzi was moving out of its December slot, potentially creating space for Om: Chapter 1. For now, December 3 remains a reported date rather than a confirmed theatrical release date.

Directed by Rajkumar Periasamy, Om: Chapter 1 is an action drama planned as the first instalment of a two-part franchise. Dhanush and Mammootty headline the film, with Sai Pallavi, Sreeleela and Naseeruddin Shah also part of the cast. Sai Abhyankkar has composed the songs and background score.
The project is produced by Dhanush, Shraddha Agrawal and Azmat Jagmag under Wunderbar Films and RTake Studios. The film has already generated interest because of its combination of Dhanush and Mammootty, while Periasamy is following his acclaimed work on Amaran with this larger-scale action project.
