Actress Ayesha Khan, who will soon be seen in Dhurandhar, has claimed that she was detained by the Mumbai Police while extending support to students protesting over the NEET issue in Mumbai. The actress shared a series of videos on Instagram, alleging that she was taken into custody despite standing peacefully and without being informed of any reason for the action.
Ayesha Khan Says She Was Standing Peacefully
As protests that began in Delhi continue to spread to other cities, demonstrations in support of NEET students have also been reported from Mumbai. According to Ayesha Khan, she had reached Dadar along with her brother and friends to show solidarity with the students.
In one of the videos posted on Instagram, the actress appeared visibly shaken and said her hands were trembling after being placed inside a police vehicle. She claimed that she had not even started participating in the protest and was simply standing on the roadside after learning that her brother and friends had been detained.
The video also featured a young student who said he had a mathematics practical examination scheduled and feared missing it after being taken into custody without explanation.
Actress Questions the Reason Behind Her Detention
In another video, Ayesha repeatedly asked police officers where they were taking the group, but said she did not receive a clear response. She also shared footage showing several women police personnel escorting her into a police van.
Accompanying the clip, the actress questioned why such action was taken against her. She stated that she had neither raised slogans nor addressed any gathering, adding that she was not even part of a group large enough to be considered an unlawful assembly. According to Ayesha, she was only trying to understand the situation after her brother had been taken away.
Taken to Worli Police Station
Later, Ayesha uploaded another video explaining that she and others were taken to Worli Police Station. Recounting the incident, she said police informed them that demonstrations were not permitted at the location. She alleged that after her brother and male friends were placed in a police vehicle, she remained at the spot to find out what had happened. Soon afterward, several police personnel approached her and asked her to get into the vehicle as well.
The actress claimed that she was escorted into the van and transported to the police station, where she spent some time before being allowed to leave.
Ayesha Praises Police Station Staff
While questioning the circumstances that led to her detention, Ayesha also appreciated the conduct of the officers at Worli Police Station. She described the staff there as polite and respectful during her stay.
However, the actress maintained that she is still uncertain why she was taken into custody in the first place, insisting that she had not engaged in any disruptive activity and was merely present to support the students and locate her family members.
