Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 on October 8 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Goa. His sudden death has left the Indian film industry mourning the loss of one of its most respected performers.
According to Dr Shekhar Salkar of Manipal Hospital, Patekar had contacted a friend around 2:30 AM, saying that he was not feeling well and was uncomfortable. The friend later reached his residence around 4 AM and found the actor in a serious condition.
Nana Patekar Messaged A Friend Around 2:30 AM

According to Dr Salkar, Patekar sent a message to a friend at around 2:30 AM saying that he was feeling unwell. As it was the middle of the night, the message was reportedly not seen immediately.
The friend eventually contacted him and reached Patekar’s Goa residence at around 4 AM. By then, the actor was reportedly sweating heavily and gradually becoming unconscious. The doctor also said that Patekar had complained of discomfort and pain on the left side.
Actor Was Found Unresponsive And CPR Was Started
After reaching the residence, Patekar’s friend contacted his caretaker and arranged for emergency medical assistance. When the emergency team arrived, the actor was reportedly completely unresponsive.
Doctors immediately began CPR and cardiac massage at the residence. He was then taken to Manipal Hospital in an ambulance, with resuscitation efforts continuing during the journey. Reports place his arrival at the hospital at around 4:20–4:30 AM.

Doctors Tried To Revive Nana Patekar For Nearly An Hour

Dr Salkar said medical teams continued attempts to revive Patekar for approximately 45 minutes to an hour. Despite prolonged resuscitation efforts, he could not be saved and was declared dead at around 5:20–5:30 AM.
The hospital identified cardiac arrest as the cause of death, while the exact underlying medical cause was not immediately established. His body was subsequently taken to Goa Medical College for a post-mortem examination as part of the medico-legal procedure.
Nana Patekar Leaves Behind A Remarkable Cinema Legacy
Patekar’s death marks the end of a career spanning Marathi theatre, Marathi cinema and Hindi films. Known for his powerful performances and distinctive dialogue delivery, he won three National Film Awards and received the Padma Shri.
His son Malhar Patekar confirmed the death. Maharashtra Cultural Affairs Minister Ashish Shelar also announced that the veteran actor would receive a state funeral in recognition of his contribution to Marathi theatre and Marathi and Hindi cinema.
