To whom does the medallion belong? Is it religious, a precious piece of treasure or property of the State? Most importantly, is Thavasi to be considered a thief just because he laid claim on what was his discovery?

However, the most appealing aspect of Enna Vilai is its initial setting. The Rameshwaram background provides the movie with an obvious identity, whereas Thavasi being a fisherman adds some credibility to the plot. The beginning of the movie offers some information about his family and daily activities that helps the viewer to comprehend the character.

The main drawback of the movie is its tendency to move into the courtroom almost fully. The personal story loses its importance as the same question regarding the legality of the situation is discussed repeatedly. The scene design looks unnatural at certain moments, and sometimes the dialogues seem to belong to another courtroom movie that was filmed decades ago.

Vijayalakshmi Veeramani also brings in more emotions as Thavasi's wife. Some of the other supporting actors lack credibility since their characters have been designed in a rather simplistic fashion.
