The first week of June 2026 has turned into a major battleground at the box office, with several high-profile releases competing for audience attention. While Ram Charan’s Peddi hit theaters on June 4, two more films-Varun Dhawan’s Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai and Bobby Deol’s Bandar-arrived on June 5. However, what has shocked moviegoers is that Bandar was reportedly put on hold only a few hours after its theatrical release.
Strong Reviews Couldn’t Prevent the Unexpected Halt
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, Bandar opened to encouraging reviews from both critics and audiences. The crime-action thriller received ratings ranging from 3.5 to 4 stars, with many viewers praising Bobby Deol’s intense performance and the film’s gripping narrative.
Despite the positive reception, reports emerged that the makers had decided to temporarily suspend the film’s programming in several theaters, leaving fans confused and disappointed.

The Real Reason Behind the Decision
According to industry reports, the issue has nothing to do with competition from Peddi or Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. Instead, the controversy revolves around the allocation of screening slots in multiplex chains.
The producers of Bandar reportedly requested a reasonable number of shows across multiplexes. Their demand included four shows in five-screen theaters and three shows after 1 PM in four-screen properties. However, they claim that major national chains provided significantly fewer screenings than expected.

Allegations of Unfair Treatment
Sources suggest that leading multiplex chains such as PVR-INOX and Cinepolis are associated with the distribution of competing releases. While some are distributing Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, others are reportedly involved in the release strategy of Peddi.
The makers of Bandar believe this resulted in their film receiving fewer and less favorable show timings, limiting its visibility despite positive word-of-mouth.
Makers Take a Firm Stand
In response, the film’s team is said to have taken a strong position. They have reportedly informed national cinema chains that the film’s programming should remain on hold until a fair distribution of shows is ensured.
The producers also believe that the advance booking numbers for the competing releases have not met expectations and that Bandar deserves a more balanced opportunity to reach audiences.

Fans Express Disappointment
The development has sparked debate among movie lovers and industry observers. Many fans have expressed frustration on social media, questioning why a film receiving positive reviews would face screening-related challenges so soon after release.
As discussions continue, all eyes are now on whether multiplex chains and the makers can reach an agreement that allows Bandar to return to theaters with a stronger and fairer screen presence.
