Mumbai: Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Rohit Shetty has reportedly received another death threat, with the sender allegedly demanding an extortion payment of ₹20 crore. The latest threat has once again raised concerns over the safety of the filmmaker, prompting Mumbai Police to launch an intensive investigation.
According to reports, the threat was not made through a direct phone call but via a 90-second audio message sent to a member of Rohit Shetty's staff on Saturday morning. In the recording, the unidentified individual allegedly warns that if the demanded amount is not paid, the consequences would be severe and Rohit Shetty himself would be targeted.
Audio Clip Under Investigation
Police sources claim that the voice in the audio message is suspected to belong to Shubham Lonkar, an alleged close associate of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. Lonkar is reportedly wanted in connection with the 2024 murder of veteran politician Baba Siddique as well as the firing incident outside Rohit Shetty's residence earlier this year.

The audio clip has been sent for forensic examination to verify the identity of the speaker. Authorities are also examining its authenticity as part of the ongoing investigation.
Not the First Threat Against Rohit Shetty
This is not the first time Rohit Shetty has allegedly been targeted by the Lawrence Bishnoi gang. On the night of January 31, 2026, unidentified assailants reportedly fired five rounds outside the filmmaker's residence in Mumbai's Juhu area. The incident was said to have been carried out to create fear, and the gang later allegedly claimed responsibility.

Following the attack, police arrested accused Deepak Sharma from Agra. During questioning, Sharma reportedly revealed that he had been influenced by social media content related to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang on platforms such as Facebook and Instagram before becoming involved in criminal activities.
Crime Branch Intensifies Probe
Mumbai Police has now handed over the latest threat case to the Crime Branch, which is leading the investigation. Security around Rohit Shetty has been further strengthened, while teams continue searching for absconding suspects, including Praveen Lonkar and Arju Bishnoi.
Officials have assured that every necessary measure is being taken to ensure the filmmaker's safety. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are awaiting the forensic analysis of the audio recording before confirming further details.
Police have urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information while the investigation is in progress.
