Tamil superstar Dhanush has finally addressed the criticism surrounding his film Raayan winning the National Film Award for Best Tamil Film.
The winners of the National Film Awards were recently announced, and Dhanush’s directorial action thriller Raayan, which was released in 2024, was honoured with the prestigious award in the Best Tamil Film category.
However, the announcement sparked discussions on social media, with some viewers arguing that films like Maharaja and Meiyazhagan were more deserving of the recognition.
Dhanush Breaks Silence on Raayan Award Controversy
Reacting to the mixed responses, Dhanush acknowledged that every year several deserving films compete for awards. Speaking at an event, the actor said that he respects the opinions of fans who supported other movies.
Dhanush stated that while Raayan received the National Film Award, there were definitely other remarkable films released that year as well. He added that fans expressing their love for those films is something he completely respects.

Actor Recalls Missing Out on Awards Earlier
Dhanush also opened up about the times when he was expected to win National Awards for his performances but did not receive them.
He recalled his earlier films like Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam and Pudhupettai, where many believed he deserved recognition. The actor said that even he had hopes of winning awards at that time, but things did not happen as expected.
Dhanush Urges Fans to Celebrate the Achievement
The actor further shared that some achievements happen at the right time despite all efforts and struggles. According to him, the result may not always depend on expectations, but genuine hard work eventually gets recognised.
Dhanush requested people to appreciate the honour and celebrate the achievement rather than focusing only on comparisons. He highlighted that as a Tamil artist, he has already won two National Awards and expressed gratitude for the recognition he has received.
With his latest win for Raayan, Dhanush has once again added another milestone to his successful career in Indian cinema.
