Sunny Deol is gearing up for the release of his much-awaited period drama Batwara 1947, and the film has already started generating considerable interest among moviegoers. After delivering a strong performance at the box office with Border 2 earlier this year, the actor is now set to return to the big screen with another historical drama.
Produced under Aamir Khan’s production banner, Batwara 1947 has been in the spotlight for quite some time. The makers recently opened the film’s advance booking, and the initial response suggests that Sunny Deol’s latest project has attracted a healthy level of audience interest.
Batwara 1947 Advance Booking Update
The advance booking window for Batwara 1947 was opened late on Sunday, and tickets have been selling steadily since then. According to Sacnilk data, the film has reportedly sold around 24,258 tickets across India ahead of its theatrical release.
The movie’s gross advance booking collection across all languages in India has reached approximately Rs 67 lakh. Meanwhile, the film has been scheduled for release across around 5,545 screens nationwide.
When calculated on the basis of net blocked seats, the film’s advance booking value has reportedly crossed the Rs 2.3 crore mark. These figures are expected to change considerably as the release date approaches and more shows become available for booking.

Can Sunny Deol Repeat Gadar 2’s Success?
The early booking numbers have created positive expectations around Batwara 1947, but the real test will begin once the film hits theatres. Sunny Deol has already demonstrated his ability to bring audiences back to cinemas with Gadar 2.
Before its release in 2023, there was considerable uncertainty about the film’s box-office prospects. However, Gadar 2 went on to become a major commercial success, earning more than Rs 525 crore in India and emerging as one of the biggest hits of Sunny Deol’s career.
Now, all eyes are on whether Batwara 1947 can generate a similar wave of excitement among the audience.

Awaraapan 2 Could Create Tough Competition
The road ahead will not be completely easy for Batwara 1947. The film is scheduled to arrive in theatres on August 14, alongside Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited Awaraapan 2.

The simultaneous release means both films will compete for screens, shows and audience attention. While Sunny Deol’s popularity and the historical backdrop of Batwara 1947 could work in its favour, Awaraapan 2 also has an established franchise value.
The first few days at the box office will therefore be crucial in determining which film manages to win the audience’s attention.
Final Take
With advance bookings showing a promising start, Batwara 1947 has given Sunny Deol fans another reason to look forward to its theatrical release. However, with Awaraapan 2 arriving on the same day, the film faces a significant box-office challenge. The weekend numbers will reveal whether the period drama can convert its pre-release buzz into a strong theatrical run.
