Director of repute Shaji Kailas is back with a vengeance through his movie "Varavu" which features Joju George in the lead and revolves around themes such as revenge, family drama and politics. Although it has been written on an intriguing plot, and features an equally strong performance by Joju George, the film finds itself struggling to break away from being yet another revenge movie. It does manage to offer some good action scenes but it ultimately fails owing to its out-of-date script.

Varavu Story Overview
The film revolves around the character of Paulson (played by Joju George) who comes back home as part of his parole when he finds out that his brother has vanished without a trace. As he embarks on his search for the truth, he gets tangled up in the web of corruption and motives.
What starts off as a seemingly innocuous disappearance soon turns out to be an act of vengeance as Paulson faces deadly enemies in his search for the truth and protection of his family. This film brings to light various secrets from the past and the present. The rest of the film is based on vengeance, justice and the cost that one is ready to bear for his family.
#Varavu (2.5/5) : A pretty ordinary revenge drama that leans heavily on its action sequences, solid technical side, and strong performances from Joju George and Murali Gopy.

Varavu Review: Familiar Revenge Formula Limits the Impact
Varavu has all the elements required for a thrilling commercial movie. It starts off with an interesting plot, good action sequences have been used and the drama is quite well-grounded. But the screenplay takes a road which is not unfamiliar at all.
In the first half of the movie there is much to intrigue the audience, but things start becoming tedious after the interval. Most of the twists and turns can be predicted by the viewer, and the revenge sequence has been depicted in the same manner one expects. The director, Shaji Kailas, tries to bring in some modernity into the movie through good action sequences and modern visuals, but the script does not help him much. So Varavu remains just another revenge thriller from a bygone era.
Joju George Carries the Film
There can be no denying that Joju George is the film’s greatest strength. He gives an incredibly intense and real performance as a man weighed down by sorrow and resentment. His presence keeps the story interesting even if the script fails to keep up. Lenaa and Kailash give solid performances as well, but most of the characters are underdeveloped and therefore lack emotional depth.
#Varavu - An Average First Half ! The film carries the flavour of a 90s revenge drama, with Shaji Kailas-style of making.#JojuGeorge’s action sequences were powerful and impactful, while #MuraliGopi delivered a solid performance.

Technical Aspects and Visual Tone
There is great cinematography in the film, which does a good job of showcasing the intense action scenes as well as the harsh terrain. There is great music in the background in important parts of the film, and the action sequences provide some interesting parts. But there could have been better editing. Some of the scenes could have been cut out to make the film more interesting.
What Are the Weak Points?
- Predictable Plot
- Dated Screenplay
- Slow Pacing
- Long Runtime

#Varavu is a revenge drama that might have worked 25 years ago, but feels painfully outdated in every sense today. The screenplay is predictable from start to finish, the emotional beats never land, and the film struggles to stay engaging.#ShajiKailas delivers one of his most… pic.twitter.com/UnsfqWnbbM

Final Verdict
Varavu has a good starting point, but fails to exploit it to the fullest extent possible. The predictable plot and the typical revenge theme are some of the things that make the movie fail in its endeavor to become a thriller. Despite the good performance by Joju George and some decent action sequences, the outmoded approach and the poor pace of the movie make it a less-than-compelling viewing experience.
Rating: 2.5/5
Overall, Varavu is a decent one-time watch for fans of Joju George and commercial revenge dramas, but it offers little that feels new or memorable.
