The Odyssey Review: A Spectacular Epic That Rarely Loses Its Grip
Christopher Nolan once again showcases his talents for which he has been rated amongst the most talented filmmakers in Hollywood. The Odyssey is a spectacular movie that takes us through the realms of myth, war, fantasy, and human drama that keep us hooked from beginning to end. This film does a good job in integrating the large scale action shots while giving the characters some breathing space to develop their personalities. Although the story may be a bit too complex at times and the emotional beats fall flat at times, The Odyssey never really lets itself slow down. The movie is spectacular with its action, world building, and a completely new take on Homer’s classic.
Matt Damon Delivers One of His Finest Performances
Matt Damon embodies Odysseus completely and portrays the character with passion, vulnerability and emotional depth. His role defines the film in that every obstacle that the hero faces on his way takes a significant meaning due to his performance. Anne Hathaway plays Penelope brilliantly, giving the character grace and strength. Tom Holland plays Telemachus magnificently, showing maturity and wisdom not typical for his age. The secondary characters played by Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Charlize Theron, and Lupita Nyong'o impress although they are on the screen very little.
