Ikka Review: Powerful Performances Lift a Familiar Story
The most notable asset of Ikka is its courtroom drama. It is quite entertaining, and the movie is successful at creating suspense during the trial proceedings. Nonetheless, the screenplay is not consistent in sustaining this pace. Having a thrilling first half, the second half of the movie lacks surprises since some plot twists can be easily predicted.
The emotional parts come out successfully, although the screenplay sometimes goes for the safer option rather than taking any risks. Nevertheless, the movie remains interesting due to its excellent acting and the court-room dialogue.
Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna Deliver Their Best
This is one of the most subtle performances from Sunny Deol in recent times. Rather than delivering his lines in a loud manner, Sunny Deol takes help from his facial expressions to make his character more realistic.
Akshaye Khanna too delivers a good performance. With his cool demeanor and unpredictability of character, he ensures that people remain guessing about him all along the movie. And the clashes between Sunny and Akshaye are by far the best parts of the movie.
Dia Mirza and Tillotama Shome add more spice to the story with their performances.

Technical Aspects and Visual Tone
The courtroom scenes are confidently shot, contributing to a more realistic atmosphere to the film. The cinematography maintains the emphasis on the characters and not on any kind of overboard theatrics, while the background score helps to build up some tension at the right points in time. The editing is crisp throughout, except for a few scenes towards the end.

Final Verdict
Ikka is a good courtroom thriller, which is mostly dependent on the performances of its lead actors. Though the plot may not be very unique for the genre, the arguments within the courtroom and the emotional drama make the movie interesting. The two strengths of the movie are its lead actors Sunny Deol and Akshaye Khanna, who give brilliant performances that can make one interested in otherwise routine sequences of the movie.
Rating: 3.5/5
Overall, Ikka is a solid one-time watch that succeeds more because of its performances than its predictable screenplay.
