In what seems like a fresh installment of the already successful series, Evil Dead Burn will be the next project to take the screen from director Sébastien Vaniček. With such actors as Souheila Yacoub, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan and Tandi Wright taking roles in it, Evil Dead Burn promises to be another supernatural horror movie where an ordinary family is thrown to face off with the Deadites once again. Filled with brutal killings, grotesque imagery and non-stop violence, the movie lives up to the Evil Dead tradition. Although Evil Dead Burn offers many shocking scenes and creative kills to satisfy the fans of extreme horror, there is no guarantee that it will impress with the story.

Evil Dead Burn Review: Brutal Horror, Limited Depth

Evil Dead Burn starts off very early by plunging the audience into total chaos. This movie has graphic practical effects, body horror, and constant carnage that makes it one of the bloodiest parts of this franchise. Some of the scary scenes are highly creative and even disturbing. But the writers of this movie devote much more time to showing violence than to developing their characters. Emotional scenes fail to make an effect since there is not enough time for them. Overall, the pace of the movie is quite fast and entertaining. However, the weak plot makes the film less memorable than its best movies of the franchise. Horror viewers who enjoy gore will surely like this film.

Souheila Yacoub Leads the Nightmare

Alice is portrayed by Souheila Yacoub in a sincere performance that combines a mix of fragility and resilience. In spite of the fact that the script favors grandeur over sentimentality, Souheila holds the movie together. Hunter Doohan and Luciane Buchanan deliver good secondary performances, with Tandi Wright adding to the suspense through her unnerving screen presence. Overall, a credible cast delivers impressive performances with a very thin emotional script to work with.

Horror and Visual Appeal

Evil Dead Burn deserves a lot of technical praise. It is possible to note practical effects and creature and makeup designs, which belong to the main strengths of the movie. Cinematography provides viewers with a gloomy atmosphere, while sound design and background music increase tension. Editing helps maintain the rhythm of the horror film, but its excessive use of violence makes the movie rather monotonous. Nonetheless, it manages to provide viewers with some memorable horror scenes.

What Are the Weak Points?

  • Thin Story
  • Excessive Gore
  • Weak Characters
  • Predictable Plot

Final Verdict

"Evil Dead Burn," true to the expectations of long-time fans, provides them with everything that they know about the series the graphic violence, the terrifying imagery, and the constant supernatural terror. Unfortunately, the film is so dependent upon the use of gore that the story and the characters are almost always overlooked. "Evil Dead Burn" is an enjoyable horror movie, although a better screenplay would have definitely made it one of the best films of the series.

Rating: 3/5

Overall, Evil Dead Burn is a worthwhile one-time watch for horror fans who enjoy graphic, blood-soaked thrillers, even if its storytelling doesn't leave a lasting impression.
