Alpha Review: Stylish Action, Uneven Execution

Alpha gets off to an energetic start with stylish action scenes and impressive production values. The film looks grand, and the action choreography keeps the momentum going for most of its runtime. However, the screenplay does not necessarily reflect the scope of the project. Many critics found that the film is typical of spy movies, with many of the emotionally charged scenes failing to have the desired effect. Moreover, there are certain moments when the pace of the action is slower. Despite these issues, the film remains entertaining thanks to its fast-paced action and franchise connections.

Bobby Deol Steals the Show

After the release of this film, Bobby Deol has become the biggest topic of discussion. The fans have appreciated his screen presence as well as performance, and he has been considered to be the best actor of this movie. Another actress, who has also impressed people with her acting skills, is Sharvari. On the other hand, the performance of Alia Bhatt has received mixed reviews. Where many have found her dedication towards the action scenes commendable, there were some who found her totally out of place in the role of a spy.

Action and Visual Appeal

Alpha does not fall short when it comes to technical aspects. The stunts look really cool and cinematography makes the movie look international. The background score has added excitement to the movie’s thrilling scenes. The visual effects are very good and the large scale sequences have made the movie look like a proper entry to YRF Spy Universe.

  • Mixed Casting

Final Verdict

Alpha is an action-packed spy film that offers enough excitement to watch, but it does not entirely transcend the typical pattern of the series. The most memorable performance in the movie comes from Bobby Deol, whereas Sharvari does a good job as well. The action debut of Alia Bhatt would be divisive for many viewers, thus becoming one of the more controversial movies in the YRF Spy Universe series. However, if you are in search of an enjoyable action movie on the big screen, there is much to enjoy here.

Rating: 3/5

Overall, Alpha is a decent one-time watch that shines with its action and Bobby Deol's performance, even if the story doesn't always hit the mark.
