The media frenzies and legal fights involving Bollywood stars often cause lasting emotional pain, which can come crashing back at any time. Recently, Rhea Chakraborty was very open about how seeing Aryan Khan go through his high-profile 2021 drug case stirred up lots of painful memories.
For Rhea, watching Aryan Khan's intense legal battle felt incredibly personal. It instantly reminded her of her own tough encounters with the law.
A Striking Sense of Familiarity
When Aryan Khan was raided on his cruise ship in 2021, Rhea commented that the whole thing was super relatable. It reminded her way too much of her own ordeal from the year before. The media buzz and being grilled by authorities was "spectacularly similar," she said.
Her reaction? It dredged up lots of recent memories. "When I saw how Aryan was coping, it really hit close to home since it mirrored my situation." Both the hype from headlines and the harsh judgments felt all too familiar, like history repeating itself.
The Parallel to Showik's Ordeal

Rhea pointed out that watching Aryan's situation reminded her more of her brother, Showik Chakraborty, than her own journey. You see, both guys found themselves suddenly in the national spotlight, poked and prodded by federal investigators.
Interestingly, Rhea mentioned they have a small physical resemblance too. This made the whole ordeal more upsetting because it felt so familiar. The twin turmoil of emotional and legal struggles really took a toll. So, during that crazy period, she actually reached out to offer support, because nobody should face that alone.
The Harsh Reality of Incarceration
Rhea also talked about the mental strain of spending 27 days in jail after the investigation into Sushant Singh Rajput's death. She said jail is an extreme identity crisis, where you lose all sense of self.
To her, being locked up means you’re treated as just a number, not a person—considered worthless by society. Along with this, there’s the terrifying uncertainty of when you’ll be free. All of this totally demolishes your self-respect and ego.
Rebuilding Life in Chapter Two

Despite struggling with PTSD, anxiety, and deep sadness, Rhea is making a conscious effort to move forward. She’s been focusing on her recovery while diving into new projects like a podcast and a clothing line with her brother.
Though she credits her close group of friends for supporting her through rough times, she keeps her personal healing private. After all, she says almost everything else in her life lacks that privacy.
