The 72nd National Film Awards ceremony is set to break away from tradition this year. Instead of being held in Delhi, the prestigious event will take place in Gujarat, with the ceremony scheduled for September 22.
The announcement comes shortly after the winners of the 72nd National Film Awards were revealed. The decision to move the ceremony outside the national capital has added a new dimension to this year's celebrations.
Where Will the 72nd National Film Awards Ceremony Be Held?
According to officials, the 72nd National Film Awards ceremony will be organised in Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, formerly known as Kevadia. President Droupadi Murmu will present the awards to the winners during the ceremony on September 22.
Ekta Nagar is internationally known for the Statue of Unity, the world's tallest statue. The 597-foot monument dedicated to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2018 and has since become one of Gujarat's major tourist attractions.

National Film Awards Have Been Held Outside Delhi Before
The National Film Awards have traditionally been presented in Delhi. The first-ever ceremony was held in 1954 at Vigyan Bhavan, and the venue has remained closely associated with the awards over the decades.
However, Delhi has not been the venue for every ceremony. There have been occasions when the event was organised outside the capital. The 72nd edition will therefore mark another departure from the usual arrangement.
