Suzy is looking back on her acting journey while opening up about the projects that are shaping the next phase of her career. The actress recently featured in a pictorial for ELLE Korea and spoke about the different characters she has portrayed, the lessons she has learned and what she hopes to explore next.
From Architecture 101 and Anna to Doona! and Genie, Make a Wish, Suzy has taken on women with very different personalities and stories. Reflecting on her evolution, she revealed how she has gradually discovered new sides of herself through acting.
Suzy Discovers New Sides Of Herself Through Acting
Suzy shared that she once wondered why people often associated her face with the idea of “first love.” However, she later came to understand that her relatively ordinary and unassuming features allow viewers to project different emotions and characters onto her. Over time, she has also noticed expressions and sides of her face that she was previously unaware of. For Suzy, these discoveries have become one of the rewarding parts of her acting journey.
Her approach to acting has changed as well. Instead of focusing only on what is written about a character in the script, she now considers their relationships, surroundings and upbringing. She imagines the experiences that shaped them and creates her own backstory to better understand the role.
The Men Of The Harem Is Her Current Focus
Suzy compared the characters she has played to different “rooms” in her heart. While she has affection and regrets connected to each role, she believes in valuing the present and moving forward after completing a project. At the moment, one particular room remains wide open — the one connected to The Men of the Harem, which she is currently filming. The project therefore represents where Suzy’s attention is focused right now, even as she continues to look ahead to other roles and stories.

Suzy also discussed two major upcoming projects. Talking about Seven O’Clock Breakfast Club for the Brokenhearted, she said she was drawn to the idea of people being able to speak more honestly with strangers who have experienced similar sadness.
She also opened up about Portraits of Delusion, explaining that the mysterious atmosphere in director Han Jae Rim’s writing and the woman’s story strongly resonated with her. While playing Song Jeong Hwa, Suzy felt that many different sides of herself were captured on screen. Although the process was not easy, she said that was part of what made the experience enjoyable and gave her an opportunity to learn.
Why Suzy Chooses Her Next Roles
When asked what she looks for while selecting projects, Suzy admitted that she still does not have a clearly defined set of criteria. Instead, she prefers to follow the projects and characters she naturally feels drawn toward at a particular moment. For her, that instinctive “pull” plays an important role in deciding what comes next.

Her upcoming slate gives her plenty of room to do exactly that.
