BLACKPINK member Jennie has released the animated lyric video for her new song ‘Someone To Hold’, featured in the soundtrack of Netflix’s upcoming animated film Steps. Released on November 6, 2026, the track marks her first contribution to an animated film and brings a musical glimpse into the movie’s reimagined Cinderella story.
The release gives fans a chance to hear Jennie in a different musical setting, away from her usual solo releases and group performances. The song is connected to the relationship between the film’s central sisters and adds another musical element to the upcoming fantasy adventure.
Jennie Makes Her Animated Film Soundtrack Debut With ‘Someone To Hold’
‘Someone To Hold’ is Jennie’s first original song for an animated film. The track was written by Justin Tranter, Julia Michaels and Jason Gill, with Tranter also involved in its production. The song has been described as an upbeat, dance-pop number with a warm emotional theme centred on sisterhood and staying connected through difficult moments.
Jennie expressed her excitement about joining the Steps project, saying that creating her first song for an animated film was a fun experience. She also shared that she enjoyed the characters’ warmth and distinct personalities and felt happy to be part of their world. The song has also received early industry recognition, earning a nomination in the Song – Animated Film category at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards ahead of its release.
What Does the ‘Someone To Hold’ Animated Video Show?
Netflix has released an animated lyric video for the track, bringing the song into the visual world of Steps. Rather than a conventional performance-focused music video, the release connects Jennie’s music with the film’s animation and characters.
The video offers fans an early look at the film’s colourful fantasy setting while introducing the song’s emotional theme. Its release also serves as a preview of the musical direction of the upcoming animated feature.

‘Steps’ Reimagines Cinderella Through Her Stepsisters
Directed by Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, Steps offers a different perspective on the familiar Cinderella story, placing her stepsisters at the centre of the adventure. Ali Wong voices Lilith, while Stephanie Hsu voices Margot. Amanda Seyfried lends her voice to Cinderella, with Bette Midler as the Fairy Godmother.
The story follows Lilith as she grows tired of living in Cinderella’s shadow. After stealing the Fairy Godmother’s magic wand and disrupting the royal ball with Margot, she sets off a chain of events that puts the kingdom in danger. The sisters must eventually work with Cinderella to confront the threat and repair their relationship.
When Will ‘Steps’ Release on Netflix?
The animated film is scheduled to premiere on Netflix on November 20, 2026, with a select theatrical release also planned for the same day. Jennie is among the artists contributing original music to the project, alongside Rose Gray, Amanda Seyfried and EMEI. Kris Bowers has composed the film’s original score.
With ‘Someone To Hold’ now available, Jennie has added a new soundtrack release to her growing solo music catalogue. The song also introduces her to animated-film music for the first time, while giving fans an early musical connection to Steps ahead of its Netflix premiere.
