Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar Movie Review: Intriguing Yet Uneven Thriller

Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar is a Malayalam detective thriller directed by Shahad with actors like Parvathy Thiruvothu, Vijayaraghavan, Mathew Thomas, Sidharth Bharathan, and Unnimaya Prasad. The movie released on 11 September 2026 features a police conspiracy which then becomes an intellectual showdown among four normal policemen and a seasoned detective. The movie is based on a strong concept and features a number of exciting scenes. Although the first half maintains the element of mystery and suspense, some writing flaws and an inconsistent second half make it less thrilling.

Aleena Abraham (Parvathy Thiruvothu) is a widow and enters the police force as a compassionate recruit, following the death of her husband while he was on duty. Instead of getting a clerical job, Aleena prefers to opt for station duty and starts off as a civil police officer.

Everything changes once Aleena, Sreenath (Mathew Thomas), Dasan (Sidharth Bharathan) and Divya (Unnimaya Prasad) bump into a suspicious man. An encounter at the police station turns out in an unpredictable manner, causing them all to end up in a very difficult situation, which could ruin their lives.

These four friends plan to collaborate in order to conceal what occurred. Unfortunately, they get into trouble when an old crime branch officer named Harris Meeran (Vijayaraghavan) decides to head the inquiry. All the rest of the movie will focus on a dangerous game between the cops and Harris.

The most outstanding aspect of the movie Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar is its fundamental structure. The movie does not pit normal criminals against the police but police officers against each other in the investigation process. As the four police officers know well about the investigative process, they know well what kind of evidences will bring them down.

This leads to several effective cat and mouse game scenes in the movie. The screenplay spends enough time on introducing the police station and the characters before the actual conflict takes place in the film. This way, the first part of the film develops its conflict smoothly without rushing into it.

The script loses credibility in the latter parts of the movie because of Aleena's reliance on Harris's own police memoir for the essential plot points. Also, at times, some explanations in the movie turn out to be too verbal. The two hours and forty-one minutes of runtime also need some editing. The similarity between this movie and Drishyam can also not be overlooked despite their distinct premises.

Parvathy Thiruvothu and Vijayaraghavan Lead the Cast

Parvathy gives Aleena a subtle treatment instead of developing her into an exaggerated super cop. Her determination and intelligence shine subtly through her portrayal that is in keeping with the film's realistic approach. Vijayaraghavan perhaps steals the show with his portrayal of Harris Meeran.

He exudes authority and manages to make his experience in the profession seem realistic without resorting to exaggerated police posturing. He creates some of the best dramatic scenes in the film along with Parvathy. Mathew Thomas too gets an interesting chance in a matured role, Sidharth Bharathan fits well into the ensemble cast. Unnimaya Prasad gives some good performances but comes off as theatrical sometimes.

Music and Visual Appeal

Technical excellence forms one of the strong points of the movie. The cinematography of Roby Varghese Raj keeps the atmosphere at the police station taut but does not indulge in any sort of unnecessary flamboyance. The fight scene that sets the ball rolling for the main crime in the movie is quite good. The editing by Chaman Chakko works towards building up the tension in the movie, while the score by Mujeeb Majeed gives an added significance to many of the taut scenes in the film.

It can be said that there is enough tension, excellent acting, and a clever plot idea in Pradhama Drishtya Kuttakkar to make it into an entertaining theatrical thriller. It is especially impressive how the struggle between Aleena and Harris is shown. The film, however, fails to maintain its pace. Conveniently written screenplay, long length, and certain similarity with Drishyam are the reasons why it fails to be fully successful. Nevertheless, for fans of Malayalam crime thrillers, the movie is definitely worth watching.
