Korean Kanakaraju is a horror comedy movie directed by Merlapaka Gandhi and has actors like Varun Tej, Ritika Nayak and Sathya in lead roles. It's a combination of supernatural themes, comedy and Indo-Korean setting, where the life of a person transforms when he meets the spirit. The movie has some interesting concepts and is quite entertaining due to the comedic skills of Sathya and energetic performance of Varun Tej. But still, the poor script and predictable storyline do not make it an unforgettable horror comedy movie.

Korean Kanakaraju Review: Fun Moments But Weak Writing

Korean Kanakaraju is a movie that begins with an innovative concept. It was refreshing in terms of its mix of horror, comedy, and Korean style. In fact, the first half is able to bring fun into the picture mainly due to its entertaining approach and performances.

Unfortunately, the screenplay remains the major issue of the film. It fails to keep the same pace throughout the entire film and several predictable scenes spoil the plot. The second half of the movie is unable to maintain the created effect as well as provide a great climax. In general, this movie can be defined as entertainment rather than a horror. The concept itself is quite interesting but its implementation is not so good.

Sathya Steals the Show

Sathya becomes the best part of Korean Kanakaraju. He shows some good comic timing and performance that adds energy to the movie. There are quite a few funny sequences because of Sathya. Varun Tej gives an earnest performance and has some good style in his character. However, the way the script has been written doesn't allow the character to reach its full potential. Ritika Nayak is a good co-star, along with some good performances from the supporting cast.

Music and Visual Appeal

This movie gets a boost by the uniqueness of the visual style and the Korean setting. The photography manages to portray the vivid world quite well, and the action and comic scenes are presented with vigor. The music scored by S Thaman adds some excitement to certain scenes, but even with such technical expertise, the poor writing cannot be concealed. A better edit would have helped.

What Are the Weak Points?

Final Verdict

There is a very unique concept in Korean Kanakaraju that has a few laughs in store for the viewers, however, bad script is the reason why the movie could not make the most out of itself. It is a comedy than horror movie with Sathya giving the best performance. Varun Tej is good with style and energy, however, boring story line and bad second half could let people down. Fans of the movie would enjoy watching an entertainer.

Rating: 2.5/5

Overall, Korean Kanakaraju is a one-time watch that works because of its humour and performances but struggles due to its ordinary storyline.
