A tragic incident has occurred on the set of Sanjay Leela Bhansali's upcoming film Love and War, resulting in the death of a carpenter working on the production. The unfortunate accident has raised concerns about worker safety in the film industry and has prompted calls for better working conditions.
Carpenter Chandradhari Yadav Dies During Night Shift
According to reports from the Film Studio Setting and Allied Mazdoor Union (FSSAMU), 42-year-old carpenter Chandradhari Yadav lost his life in the early hours of June 17, 2026. The incident took place at Royal Pump Studio in Goregaon East, Mumbai, where the set for Love and War was being constructed.
Initial reports suggest that the accident may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed, and authorities are awaiting the post-mortem report for further clarity.
Bhansali Productions Offers Financial Support
Following the tragic loss, Bhansali Productions has reportedly offered financial compensation of ₹40 lakh to Yadav’s family. Chandradhari Yadav is survived by his wife and two daughters.
The compensation proposal came after discussions between the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) and FSSAMU, both of which approached the film's producers seeking financial assistance and long-term support for the bereaved family.
FWICE Demands Better Protection for Workers
Speaking about the incident, FWICE President B.N. Tiwari emphasized that financial aid alone is not enough. He urged the production house to take responsibility for the education of Yadav’s children and highlighted concerns over extended working hours in the industry.

He stated that workers are often required to work beyond the standard eight to ten hours, which can lead to physical exhaustion and increase workplace risks. Tiwari stressed that no film project, regardless of its scale or budget, should compromise the safety and well-being of its workers.
Claims of Long Working Hours Surface
FWICE General Secretary Ashok Dubey revealed that Chandradhari Yadav had reportedly been working continuously on the set for the previous three days. On the day of the incident, he was said to have been on duty from around 7 a.m. until 3 a.m.
According to eyewitness accounts, Yadav allegedly suffered an electric shock while working. He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
Request Made for Employment to Victim’s Wife
In addition to financial compensation, FWICE has written to Sanjay Leela Bhansali requesting employment opportunities for Yadav’s wife within the production company. The organization believes that a stable source of income would provide long-term support to the family following their devastating loss.
No Official Statement Yet from Production House
As of now, Bhansali Productions has not released an official statement regarding the incident. The matter remains under investigation, and further details are expected once the post-mortem findings are made public.
Meanwhile, Love and War, starring Ranbir Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, and Vicky Kaushal, has reportedly been postponed and is now expected to release in January 2027. The tragic accident has cast a shadow over one of the most anticipated films currently in production.
