Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi has finally addressed reports claiming that he would portray legendary comedian-actor Mehmood in an upcoming biopic on iconic music composer R.D. Burman.
The actor has been making headlines recently for his much-awaited return as Shivam Pandit in Awarapan 2. Amid the buzz surrounding his upcoming projects, reports surfaced that Hashmi had been approached to play the legendary entertainer Mehmood in a film based on the life of R.D. Burman, popularly known as Pancham Da.
However, Emraan has now put an end to the speculation and clarified that he is not associated with the project.
Emraan Hashmi Denies Playing Mehmood
For quite some time, there has been considerable curiosity around the proposed R.D. Burman biopic. The project is reportedly being backed by filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, who is also said to be playing the celebrated composer in the film.
Earlier, a report claimed that Emraan Hashmi had been selected to portray Mehmood, one of the most popular comic actors in Hindi cinema. The news quickly created buzz among Bollywood fans, given Mehmood's memorable contribution to Indian cinema.
Emraan, however, has denied the report through his Instagram Story. Clarifying his position, the actor stated that he has neither been approached for the film nor is he playing Mehmood in the proposed biopic.
With this clarification, it is now clear that the Awarapan 2 star is not currently connected with the R.D. Burman biopic and will not be portraying the legendary comedian-actor.

Akshay Kumar's Name Also Linked to the Biopic
Emraan Hashmi is not the only Bollywood star whose name has been associated with the R.D. Burman biopic. Earlier, reports also suggested that superstar Akshay Kumar could be considered for a role connected to the project.
However, no official confirmation regarding the casting of the film has been announced so far. Details about the final cast and the production timeline are still awaited.
Emraan Hashmi Returns as Shivam Pandit in Awarapan 2
Meanwhile, Emraan Hashmi is preparing for the release of Awarapan 2, one of his most anticipated projects. The sequel brings back his iconic character Shivam Pandit nearly two decades after the original Awarapan.
The film has generated significant interest among fans who have been waiting to see Emraan return to the character. Awarapan 2 is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 14, 2026.
For now, Emraan's clarification has put the rumours surrounding his alleged portrayal of Mehmood to rest, while fans eagerly await more updates about both Awarapan 2 and the R.D. Burman biopic.
