Emraan Hashmi's highly anticipated film Awarapan 2 has officially received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), paving the way for its theatrical release next week. The sequel marks Hashmi's return as Shivam nearly two decades after the original film and has already generated significant excitement among fans.
CBFC Gives Green Signal to Awarapan 2 Ahead of Release
The CBFC has awarded Awarapan 2 a UA 16+ certificate, allowing audiences aged 16 years and above to watch the film in theatres. According to the certification issued on August 5, the romantic action thriller has a total runtime of 2 hours and 20 minutes, slightly longer than the 2007 original, which ran for 2 hours and 13 minutes.

Several Modifications Ordered by the Board
While approving the film, the certification board directed the makers to implement a series of changes before release. A total of nine edits were reportedly made to comply with CBFC guidelines.
Among the required modifications were the addition of disclaimers related to drug abuse and child trafficking. The board also instructed the filmmakers to replace certain objectionable words in both the audio track and subtitles.
Some violent sequences were toned down as well, with one action scene reportedly reduced by nearly 50 percent. In addition, a scene involving drug consumption and portions of the end credits were edited before the film received its final certification.
Emraan Hashmi Returns as Shivam After 19 Years
Awarapan 2 brings back Emraan Hashmi in the role of Shivam, a character that earned a loyal fan following despite the original film's modest box office performance. The sequel also stars Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in key roles, adding further star power to the project.
The film has been directed by Nitin Kakkar, who aims to continue the emotional and action-packed legacy of the original while presenting a fresh story for today's audience.
Awarapan 2 Set for Grand Theatrical Release on August 14
With the censorship formalities completed, Awarapan 2 is all set to hit theatres on August 14. The sequel arrives 19 years after the first installment, and expectations are high among fans eager to see whether the franchise can achieve greater commercial success this time around.
The film's strong pre-release buzz, combined with Emraan Hashmi's return to one of his most loved characters, has made Awarapan 2 one of the most awaited Bollywood releases of the season.
