Television actress Akanksha Puri has found herself at the centre of a major controversy after making a shocking claim about the ongoing protests against the alleged NEET paper leak. The actress alleged that some actors from the television and film industries are being approached with monetary offers to participate in protests and public campaigns.
Akanksha Puri, who has worked across television and regional entertainment industries, recently spoke about the student protests and expressed her concerns over celebrities using such movements for publicity. Her statement has triggered a heated debate on social media, with many users reacting strongly to her remarks.
‘Several Groups Are Approaching Actors and Creators’
During an interview with IANS on July 23, 2026, Akanksha Puri addressed the ongoing student demonstrations and urged people to support genuine causes instead of treating them as promotional opportunities.
The actress said that people should stand with what is right and avoid turning sensitive issues into a marketing strategy. She claimed that many actors and content creators have been contacted by different groups who allegedly want them to join rallies and make the protests part of their public image.
Akanksha stated that celebrities should not participate in such movements for personal gain and should instead focus on supporting the real concerns of students.
‘I Don’t Want to Be Part of This’
Sharing her thoughts further, Akanksha Puri said that she does not want to become a part of what she described as unnecessary controversy. She added that supporting a cause does not always require physical presence and that she would stand with students whenever needed.
The actress also expressed sadness over the situation, saying that students represent the future of the country and their concerns deserve attention. According to her, the demands raised by students should be heard and addressed properly.
NEET Paper Leak Protest Gains Momentum
The protests against the alleged NEET paper leak have gained momentum in recent days, with students staging demonstrations at several locations, including Delhi’s Jantar Mantar. The issue has attracted attention from political leaders, activists and several public figures.
The movement intensified after social activist Sonam Wangchuk was reportedly removed from the protest site in Delhi on July 18, 2026. Wangchuk had been demanding accountability over alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and was reportedly on an indefinite hunger strike.
Authorities later admitted him to a hospital, citing health concerns, medical advice and directions from the Delhi High Court.
Meanwhile, Akanksha Puri’s remarks have added a new dimension to the ongoing debate, as social media users continue to discuss whether celebrities’ involvement in public movements is driven by genuine support or publicity motives.
