Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise is ready to take flight once again. The makers have officially announced Top Gun 3, the third installment of the iconic action franchise, bringing back the beloved character Pete “Maverick” Mitchell to the big screen.
Announcement Made at CinemaCon
The much-awaited sequel was unveiled during Paramount Pictures’ presentation at CinemaCon in Las Vegas. The annual industry event is known for showcasing major upcoming Hollywood projects to theater owners and global media.

The announcement was made through a special video presentation, which also featured Tom Cruise, even though he was not physically present at the event.
Work on Script Begins, Maverick’s Return Confirmed
Paramount’s co-head Josh Greenstein confirmed that Top Gun 3 is officially in development, with the script currently in progress.
He also revealed that Tom Cruise will reprise his iconic role as Maverick. The film will be produced by veteran producer Jerry Bruckheimer, who has been associated with the franchise since the beginning.

As of now, the makers have not announced an official release date.
Franchise’s Massive Box Office Success
The Top Gun franchise began in 1986 and became a cultural phenomenon. The original film earned around $353.8 million worldwide, marking a major milestone in Tom Cruise’s career.
The sequel, Top Gun: Maverick, released in 2022, turned out to be a global blockbuster. The film reportedly collected over ₹12,250 crore worldwide, breaking several box office records.

Combined, the first two films have grossed over ₹15,000 crore globally.
