There have been many cases where Bollywood movies have adopted popular stories from Hollywood and given their own version by adding their own emotions, culture, music, and style of narration to it. Although some versions were true to the original film, there were those which underwent changes in order to connect with the Indian viewers. These films range from psychological thriller, family comedy, romantic love story, and much more. There are five Bollywood movies inspired by Hollywood movies and have made a name for themselves.
1. A Kiss Before Dying - Baazigar
The novel A Kiss Before Dying contributed to the idea for Baazigar, especially concerning the psychological elements present in the book and the character of the protagonist with ulterior motives. Still, the filmmakers of Baazigar brought their own element of surprise to the film, which differentiated the film from its predecessor.
The movie turned out to be one of the most thrilling movies of Indian cinema, thus proving the fact that adaptations can be successful too.
2. Mrs. Doubtfire - Chachi 420
The inspirational movie by Hollywood, "Mrs. Doubtfire," formed the concept of Chachi 420. This movie was based on the theme of a parent having to change his/her identity to continue being with his/her child.
The touching part of the movie, along with the element of humor and familial relationships, enabled it to be successful and entertaining for viewers even many years after its making.
3. When Harry Met Sally - Hum Tum
Hum Tum was largely inspired by When Harry Met Sally, which is one of the best classic romantic comedies. The film revolves around the developing love story of two people who develop their relationship through several years of friendships and misunderstandings.
The Indian version brought its own touch to the film through music and culture, thus giving it a unique identity.
4. Hitch - Partner
Hollywood romantic comedy, Hitch, forms the basis of the basic concept of Partner wherein a relationship guru assists someone else in building their self-confidence and finding love.
The Bollywood remake added a new dimension to the story, giving more emphasis to comedy, music, and grand entertainment elements. With the inclusion of an Indian flavor to comedy and drama, the movie turned into a box-office entertainer.
5. Forrest Gump - Laal Singh Chaddha
Forrest Gump is a world-famous movie that has been converted into the movie Laal Singh Chaddha with the storyline being changed from American history to Indian history. Nevertheless, the themes of innocence, kindness, destiny, and the remarkable adventure of an average person have been kept in the movie despite the cultural differences.
The adaptation showed that a worldwide emotional story can be retold for another audience and still keep the key message of the story.
