Haiku is a Tamil romantic drama directed by Yuvaraj Chinnasamy, starring Aegan, Sri Devi Apalla and Femina George. Released in theatres on October 23, 2026, the film explores first love, heartbreak, emotional growth and second chances through a story that moves from a quirky college romance to the complications of adult relationships.
The film has a promising premise and a few genuinely charming moments, but its execution struggles to maintain the emotional connection needed for a memorable love story. While the lead actors bring some warmth to the screen and the music supports the romantic atmosphere, repetitive writing and an uneven narrative prevent Haiku from reaching its full potential.

Haiku Story Overview
Aegan plays Manohar, a young man who joins Arul Bodhi Girls College in Coimbatore after it becomes a co-educational institution. As the first male student on campus, he finds himself in several awkward and amusing situations. His college life takes a romantic turn when he meets Kodi (Sri Devi Apalla), and their friendship gradually develops into love.
However, their relationship faces challenges as they move into adulthood. After completing his mechanical engineering degree, Manohar starts working and eventually builds a career in the corporate world. Three years after his relationship with Kodi falls apart, he meets Nivetha (Femina George), an intern at his workplace.
Nivetha is dealing with an unhealthy relationship, and Manohar helps her recognise the importance of independence and self-respect. As she develops feelings for him, he must confront his own emotional baggage and decide whether he is ready to love again.
The rest of the story explores how past relationships influence present choices, whether people can learn from heartbreak and why mutual respect matters in love. Although these themes give the film emotional potential, the screenplay struggles to explore them with enough depth and freshness.

Haiku Review: A Familiar Love Story That Loses Its Way
Haiku begins with a playful college setting that offers opportunities for humour, awkward encounters and youthful romance. Manohar being the only male student provides an unusual starting point, and the early portions attempt to use this situation to create lighthearted entertainment. However, the novelty of the premise gradually fades as the story shifts towards familiar romantic conflicts.
The film's central idea is worth exploring. Relationships can change how people understand themselves, and heartbreak can teach them important lessons about boundaries, independence and emotional maturity. Unfortunately, the screenplay repeatedly returns to similar feelings and conversations without developing them meaningfully.
The result is a romance that often feels stuck. Emotional scenes sometimes linger longer than necessary, while predictable developments reduce the impact of the characters' struggles. The transition between the college romance and the later workplace storyline also requires a stronger emotional connection to make the narrative feel cohesive.
The film does have its brighter moments. Some comic sequences provide welcome relief, and the relationship dynamics occasionally feel relatable. However, these moments are too scattered to overcome the slow narration and repetitive writing. The message about respecting individual choices in relationships is relevant, but the film would have benefited from a more nuanced and engaging approach.

Aegan, Sri Devi And Femina George's Performances
Aegan carries much of the film as Manohar, but his performance lacks the consistent screen presence required to make the character's emotional journey convincing. He handles some lighter moments adequately, yet the more complex relationship scenes demand greater subtlety and maturity. His portrayal struggles to make Manohar's changing feelings feel entirely natural.
Sri Devi Apalla brings a pleasant presence to Kodi and performs several romantic moments with sincerity. Her chemistry with Aegan works in parts, although the character's emotional development could have been explored more convincingly, particularly in the later portions.
Femina George gets an important role as Nivetha, whose experiences introduce themes of unhealthy relationships and personal independence. She brings energy to the character, but some emotional scenes feel overstated rather than spontaneous. A more restrained performance might have made Nivetha's struggles more affecting.
Adhirchi Arun contributes a few entertaining comic moments, while the supporting cast helps establish the college and workplace settings. On the technical side, Priyesh Gurusamy's cinematography complements the film's youthful atmosphere. Siddhu Kumar's music supports the romantic mood, though the soundtrack does not consistently leave a lasting impression. The editing could also have been tighter, particularly in the second half, where several scenes interrupt the narrative flow.
.@ActorAegan WINS HEARTS IN #Haiku! ❤️ His effortless charm, natural acting & convincing romantic and emotional moments are a major highlight! 👏✨ A feel-good entertainer with lovely melodies, relatable relationships & enjoyable humour. Both female lead have done their best ❤️

#Haiku Review | A Poetic Take on Modern Love! ❤️
Director Yuvraj Chinnasamy explores contemporary relationships and the psychology of men and women through @ActorAegan, who revisits his college romance while helping his intern Femina navigate her own love life.
The screenplay thoughtfully reflects how today's youngsters handle heartbreak, compatibility and moving on.
#Aegan shows promise as a performer, @SrideviActor is convincing and delivers emotional portions well. @FeminaGeorge stands out with an emotionally grounded portrayal. @adhirchi_arun is good with spontaneous humour.
@Music_Siddhu's music blends well with narration. There's nothing precise to mention on flip side. Maybe, the college portions could have explored youth culture in greater depth, but that doesn't hamper the progression of story.
Overall, A thoughtful romantic drama with a refreshing perspective on relationships.

Final Verdict
Haiku has a relatable foundation, an appealing college setting and a meaningful message about love, heartbreak and self-respect. Aegan and Sri Devi Apalla have a few charming moments together, while Femina George adds another dimension to the relationship drama. The cinematography and music also help establish the film's youthful romantic atmosphere. Unfortunately, the film struggles to turn its promising ideas into a compelling cinematic experience. Repetitive writing, uneven performances and slow pacing weaken the emotional impact, leaving only occasional moments of charm.
Rating: 2/5
Haiku may appeal to viewers who enjoy simple relationship dramas, but those looking for a fresh and memorable romance may find it disappointing.
