BTS added another major milestone to its global music career at the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards, winning three awards at the ceremony held on September 27 at Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater. The group won Song of the Year and Best K-Pop for “SWIM”, along with Best Group. The three wins also meant BTS took home an award in every category for which it was nominated.

BTS Wins Song Of The Year With SWIM

One of the biggest moments of the night came when BTS won Song of the Year for “SWIM”. The award marked a major achievement for the group, as BTS became the first K-pop group to win Song of the Year at the MTV VMAs.

“SWIM” had already earned two nominations at this year’s ceremony, with the song also competing in the Best K-Pop category. The track ultimately converted both nominations into wins, giving BTS two major trophies from the same song.

BTS also won Best K-Pop for “SWIM”, adding another international recognition to the group's 2026 comeback era. The category featured several major K-pop acts, including BLACKPINK, CORTIS, KATSEYE and LE SSERAFIM, along with Lisa.

The win further highlighted the global reach of BTS, particularly as the group returned to major music-award stages following the release of its latest music.

Best Group Win Adds Another VMA Milestone

The third award came in the Best Group category, where BTS won against a field that included BLACKPINK, CORTIS, FLO, Fuerza Regida, Geese, KATSEYE and Twenty One Pilots.

The victory also marked BTS’ fifth Best Group win at the VMAs. The group had previously won the category four consecutive times from 2019 to 2022, making the latest trophy another notable addition to its VMA history.

BTS Thanks ARMY For Three Major Wins

Following the ceremony, BTS shared a message through BIGHIT MUSIC thanking ARMY for their continued support. The group described the album ARIRANG as a new beginning and said the awards were particularly meaningful because they came from listeners who connected with their music.

BTS also highlighted the importance of the Song of the Year win for “SWIM” and thanked everyone who supported the track. The members said they would continue presenting new music and performances together, making the three VMA wins another important moment in the group's latest chapter.
